Anime

A style of cartoon originating from Japan. The word itself is an abbreviation of "animation" but is used primarily as reference to Japanese animations. Many (not just fans) claim that anime is not a form of cartoon but is instead its own thing entirely. Although having distinct characteristics and features, "anime" remains nothing more than a cartoon style.

Boy: I just saw a cool cartoon on TV last night! It's called Dragon Ball!
Girl: That's not a cartoon, it's an "anime".
Boy: Really? Looked like a cartoon to me.
