It usually has metallic hardcore riffs oftentimes influenced by early metalcore bands such as Earth Crisis, Visions of Disorder or Poison the Well, melodic choruses and the occasional dissonant chords. It makes heavy use of screamed vocals, although shouting, cleans and gang vocals are also prominent. The genre gets it's name from it's popularity on sites such as MySpace.

This hairstyle’s exaggerated part would cause the elder emo’s hair to nearly cover both or at least one of their eyes. It was also customary for the Myspace Mop to be utterly fried with a hair straightener and dyed unnaturally, either with overly saturated colors or horizontal stripes.
I’ve been feeling nostalgic lately and decided I hate my center part hair. I want to go back to my Myspace Mop days and change my profile song to Story of the Year or The Maine’s latest release. Simpler Times.
