Scare Stat

A stat that is potentially mis-leading, used with the intention of playing off of fear-based emotional reactions (pathos), used to support an idea. This idea, requiring deceptive support, is likely flawed. A scare stat has hidden truth (or is a twisted version of truth) which the author of the scare stat hopes you will overlook, as most people do.

"In the five years after alcohol sales were expanded, the number of drinking and driving related deaths in Calloway County more than doubled compared to the five years before.

In the five years after alcohol sales were expanded, Calloway County experienced 34% more alcohol-related arrests on average compared to the five years before.

In the five years after alcohol sales were expanded, Calloway County experienced 60% more total criminal arrests on average compared to the five years before."

AP Stats

Laughably easy AP test, second in easiness only to AP Psych. The class involves a bunch of z-, t-, binomial, and chi-squared distributions (i.e. assume a bunch of impractical BS, like on the AP physics exam, look up a value in a table, add a sentence our two). Generally taken by people who want to get out of their college math requirement without taking calculus.

I wanted some easy college credit, so I got a 4 on the AP Stats exam.

stat girl

A female who records statistics for a high school men's sporting team. She usually travels with the team to away events and has always sex with many of the team's members.
