Commonly ‘be/get dinged /dɪŋd/. One is dinged when one is contacted by the NHS Track-and-Trace app and told to self-isolate following possible exposure to someone with Covid. ‘Ding’ is onomatopoeic after the sound of a smartphone notification.

(This usage is observed in Cambridge, UK, where this entry is written - for the record.)

I got dinged by the app and I’ve no idea why.

1. The sound a person emits after partaking in the process of smoking marijuana, indicating how incredibly baked the individual is. Often followed by some illogical statement involving oven mitts and burnt cookies and much laughter.
