A line counter is a construction worker stuck in their old ways, unwilling to adopt adopt new products or technology to make lives easier or faster. They reject the notion that any improvements could be made to tools or processes used in construction and home improvements and prefer to things the traditional way out of stubbornness and technology aversion.

In online political debates, necessary counterfactuals are those we cannot avoid—they're built into the questions we're asking. The task is not to eliminate them but to handle them responsibly, with humility about their limits.

Example: "They were debating whether the stimulus had worked. The question itself required necessary counterfactuality: what would have happened without it? She acknowledged the uncertainty: 'We can't know for sure, but models suggest...' Necessary counterfactuality meant she couldn't avoid speculation, but she could be honest about its limits. Her opponent, claiming absolute certainty, was the one being dishonest."

Justified Counter-reality is a defensive tool: when someone says "supporting BRICS makes you a Nazbol/Duginist," you might need to construct the counter-reality of what actual Nazbol/Duginism entails to show the absurdity of the accusation. It's the strategic deployment of alternative reality to expose the falsity of a claim, not to assert a falsehood as truth.
