A puppy adopted or bought to prove or force a relationship to be permanent. The modern equivalent of getting pregnant to force a marriage.

Girl 1: Wow, she sure does love that puppy. She's got to have posted at least 50 pictures of it.
Girl 2: It's her commitment puppy, didn't you notice how her boyfriend is in every picture?
