alternafolk

Umbrella term used to define various subculture and counterculture movements, generally based around genres of music such as jam bands, punk, alternative, metal, hardcore, goth, etc. Does not include pop-punk/pop-emo kids, as they are not subculture but instead buying into corporate pre-packaged shit music.
That festival we went to last weekend was great! All the alternafolk came out to play - there were some really weird looking people there.

I really like visiting my sister, her city is full of interesting alternafolk.

Alternarock

The coolest way to say Alternative Rock, which, since Fall Out Boy, has been more pop-rock than anything.
Interviewer: So what kind of music do you guys play?
Pete: We tend to stick to alternarock since we don't have a big indie crowd.
Interviewer: I guess not with songs like "Sugar, We're going Down". Are you sure you're not just a pop/rock band?
Pete: No, we're definitely alternarock. Definitely.
