A genre of music that, in the late 70s-80s, was based on partying and having a good time were the only ways to live. On occasion you would get darker lyrics, but not like the shit you see in bands today such as Atreyu and lamb of god. Fuck them.

Good metal: Metallica, Poison, Def Leppard, Ratt, Megadeth, Kiss, Skid Row, Ozzy, Van Halen, Dokken, Queensryche, and Motley Crue.

Metal 

Metal can only be described as the best genre ofmusic to ever hit the earth. Metal derived from the hard rock popular in the late 60s such as Led Zepplin and turned into Black Sabbath and Alice Cooper in the 70s. Continually accused of being Satanist and listening to Metal or wearing band T-shirts made people targets for police. More bands followed like Iron Maiden in the ealy 80s. Then Speed and Death metal came along when Metallica, Slayer and Megadeath showed up. In the mid 80s Gwar came out and took the stage show to the max with fake decapitations and blood spewing everywhere. In the early 90s (93-94) Melodic Death Metal bands came out of Scandanavia like In Flames and Children of Bodom. Then came along Nu Metal a.k.a Mallcore. Nu metal includes Slipknot, Korn Manson. System of a Down is slightly Nu Metal but more harcore punk-metal. Progreessive metal bands like Tool don't have the same style as other forms of metal but can still retain the heaviness of metal.

TRUE Metal is the most under appreciated style of music today. There are many good, TRUE, metal bands that exist. However, shit like Slipknot, Korn, System of a Down, and (recent) Cradle of Filth have given this genre a bad name in the mainstream. Thus, all the good bands were forced to remain obscure. This is one thing that seperates the TRUE metalheads, from the posers. The posers are the stupid kids who claim to be metalheads, yet listen to nothing but slipknot while claiming to be "Hardcore". The TRUE metal fans are the ones who appreciate bands that are not well known to the media whores that MTV controls. TRUE metal fans and TRUE metal bands are the 2 last remaining hopes of the genre.

Metal 

Music in its most perfect form. A metal song usually has fast and hard guitar riffs, Lightning speed drums, dark lyrics, and a kick ass guitar solo. Black Sabbath was the first real metal band, although some bands you wouldnt expect to be metal bands, such as AC/DC and Led Zeppelin have also been an influence. After Black Sabbath came Judas Priest, Accept, etc. After those came Motley Crue, Van Halen, Motorhead Ozzy Osbourne(solo artist), then came Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera, Slayer, and Anthrax, then came the worst time with bands such as Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, and Nickelback. But there is some good nu metal bands out there such as Saliva, At the Gates, and KoRn. But overall, Metal has had a great history with some of the most talented bands ever.

1. An element on the periodic table that is a good conductor of heat and electricity. Often have a metallic sheen to them.

2. A genre of music that grew out of rock. Its listeners, called metalheads, are often stereotyped incorrectly, as is the music itself. Metal is not a bunch of rich, angsty teens screaming about Satan, violence, and sex. That is called Metalcore or Nu-metal and is generally looked down upon. Metal is a genre based off of originality and technicality. It is extremely diverse ranging from bands such as Pain Of Salvation to Decapitated.
