Roscoe Conkling 

One of the most corrupt and powerful republican politicians during the Gilded Age; he was infamous for his use of the spoils system, patronage, and graft, and was hated by political opponents for his haughty way of acting. Strangely enough, despite all this he was very Progressive, and actively supported Civil Rights.

That Roscoe Conkling guy was bad and all but he supported Civil Rights so he couldn't have been too bad
