a tally-van is an ice-cream van. They are known as tally-vans because they are usually driven and owned by tallys.

Sugar Ally

A slang term for someone of Italian decent. Rhyming slag for "Tally", a word used in Scotland to describe Italians or people of Italian decent.

Teacher: "Aldo, are you a sugar ally?"
Aldo (pupil): "Aye I am sir"
