Shut up

An incredibly offensive profanity intended to tell someone to zip.

These are two words you should never say in succession in front of teachers or other adults. They will treat it like a crime.
Not a useful phrase for younger receivers either, as more often than not, it would escalate the situation with both parties resorting to a screaming contest to see who can come up with the better insults.

It is more advisable to use "I, frankly, would appreciate it better if you didn't talk as much from now on" instead, where it would warrant a less negative response.

Using please or some other polite word before/after this phrase turns the normally aggressive expression into a passive-aggressive one. Also not recommended, but effective when the other party genuinely believes that you're asking nicely.
"Mrs. Wood, I am disappointed to inform you that your son had uttered an unacceptable term today. This afternoon, I was teaching the class as usual, and he had the audacity to tell me to 'shut up'! Can you believe this?!"

"Your mum is a fat, ugly-"
"SHUT UP! SHUT UP! SHUT UP! I'M NOT PLAYING WITH YOU ANYMORE!"

"I know this may come across as rude, but can you two please shut up for one moment?"

*Collective crowd gasp*

"I'm trying to figure this out, I don't know yet!"
"So shut up already!"
"You don't tell me what to do!"

An example of "shut up" escalating a situation:
Person 1: *Singing obnoxiously*
Person 2: Please shut up.
Person 1: Oh yeah? *Sings louder*
Person 2: I SAID SHUT UP!
Person 1: Well I say YOU DON'T COMMAND ME!
Person 2: This song sucks, your voice is horrible, so shut up!
Person 1: LEAVE THE ROOM THEN!
Person 2: It's MY ROOM!
Person 1: NOT ANYMORE!
Person 2: YOU LITTLE *censored*!
Person 1: IS THAT THE BEST YOU CAN COME UP WITH? WELL HOW ABOUT YOUR MOM IS A STINKING *censored* AND YOU-
Person 2: OH YEAH? WELL YOUR *censored* ASS CAN GO *censored* YOURSELF AND YOUR *censored* OF A MOM CAN ALSO *censored*!
