dad metal 

A song or band that tries too hard to sound heavy and grungy, leading you to assume it's the style of music your dad would listen to thinking he's badass.

Generally older bands that change their sound in order to stay relevant.

Dylan: Bruh, have you heard Alexisonfire's new song? That shit is dad metal..
Tyler: Ay dog, I hear that.
