A reference to the 1979 movie Breaking Away. The more affluent Indiana University students use "cutters" as a derogatory term for locals related to the local Indiana Limestone industry and the stonecutters who worked the quarries.
Mike: They're gonna keep callin' us "cutters." To them, it's just a dirty word. To me, it's just somethin' else I never got a chance to be.

Something very difficult. Based on the rescue from the Beaconsfield gold mine in Australia where the rescuers encountered rock said to be times harder than concrete.

Jim Courier, the American tennis player, was commenting on a match for Australian television. A female player was close to victory on court, while the players for the next match wanted her to close out the match so they could get on court. Courier, "There's two guys in the locker room rooting loudly for her."
