A nickname for a member of two popular meme groups on Facebook: Twilight Shitposting & Twilight Sewerposting. These are abbreviated as TSP and The Sewer, respectively. Both groups are based on the book/movie series, “The Twilight Saga” by Stephanie Meyer.
Hardcore ratties may earn expert badges in the groups for random topics, such as jigsaw puzzles. The admin team is referred to as royalty, with Kayla being the Queen/God. Jackson Rathbone (who plays Jasper in the movies) is referred to as The Rat King.
Ratties may also refer to themselves as rats, though the Facebook algorithm tends to flag that term. To circumvent the algorithm, the group admin(s) directed members to substitute the rat emoji 🐀 instead of using the word rat in posts.
Ratties may attempt to “signal” each other if they see twilight content outside of TSP. To do this, usually one rat will comment “🐀?” or perhaps add the sparkle emoji ✨, “🐀✨?” Then they simply wait for a reply. If the other person is not a rat, they will simply be confused. The sparkle emoji is used since the vampires in Twilight sparkle in direct sunlight. Rats will reply with emojis and/or acronyms, with the acronyms referring to specific quotes from the movies/books. This exchange is sometimes called “The Rat Signal”, which is a pun similar to “The Bat Signal”, since the actor who plays Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) also starred as The Batman.
Some popular emojis used by ratties when signaling include: 🐀 ✨👹🪱🫦👸🏻👁️
