off-meta

When there is a set of competing strategies in a game, its meta (plural), any approach that is competitive but not mainstream is 'off-meta'.

DayNine playing MTG: "That's like the first off-meta deck I've been up against in quite some time."
Also DayNine in the same match: "Flork. Flerk."
