Something you say woops about afterward.

So she was the one that hired the Navy Seal to off her brother and make it look like an accident, unless it was the same kind of misinformation from NPR that brought people news about a guy bringing tons of rat meat from Africa to sell to restaurants.

Someone that seems cool and nice on the surface, but is actually a calculating machine.

Asshole next door 

What you get when you try to do what Dr. Frankenstein did by making a boy next door out of an asshole.

She tried to take the more favorable traits/parts of guys that she actually liked and combine them with the disgusting and grotesque traits/parts of the guy she was operating on to make him more like a boy next door, but instead ended up getting an asshole next door.

Mundane 

Something that isn't special to look at.

To most people, it was mundane and went unnoticed, but people could at least count on it to be mundane and unnoticed.

Key 

Something that gives somebody access to something.

If she wasn't friends with as many of Paulie Mussolini's (the name of one of the guards) enemies as she was, he wouldn't think it was possible she could be trying to finesse the key to let her and his enemies in from him by calling him cute, but he had to think of all the possibilities. People expect too much for every compliment they try to give, so Paulie Mussolini thought he shouldn't be as sparing as most people with his praise of others.

Untouchable 

A fancy way for someone to say that they are invincible.

Nobody is invincible, there is no such thing. Even humans with lots of money are still human, and they still have to build an underground bunker somewhere to keep themselves as untouchable as they claim to be. Even if the laws don't seem to apply to them the way they do everyone else.

Prove 

To make somebody believe something, which isn't always synonymous with something being true.

The girl had sent people pictures of her trying to prove something to them so that they would lie to hear and tell her what she wanted to hear, that she was the toughest person they had ever met. Really, people thought she was soft, and if the ones that didn't accept her as she was were the minds she was trying to change, she wasn't going to get it done by trying to prove she was something that she wasn't.
