New jersey
New Jersey is between DE, PA, NY and the ocean. If you were from the part of New Jersey outside New York, you're from North Jersey (not New York), and if you're from the part of New Jersey outside Philly, you're from South Jersey (not Philly). Most people from New Jersey already know that and would have it no other way. Going to Philly for events, dining, shopping, to visit people, and so on isn't having started life there. Knowing a few people there doesn't make them the people you started your life around.
New Jersey is between a lot of different things up north, though most people don't confuse it with anything else.

Classical
Black people ought to do with classical, opera, and country music what white people did with jazz/the blues/rock/r&b/rap. Steal a genre of music, tell everyone they're doing it to promote interest in the genre of music among black audiences, then take credit for any popularity that comes from it.
Black people should fuck up classical/opera/country music just like white people did with the blues.

Respect
You can live without someone's respect, since most likely you've been living most of your life without the respect of people you don't well, whether they're people you just met at work or people you've known for a while. Your soul might not be replaceable though.
I'd rather be me than you or anybody else, even if nobody likes/respects me for it. Anybody can be trained to do something as a skill, but nobody can train somebody to be who they are, you are who you are for a reason. Respect isn't everything. Becoming a functional part of a machine to get respected isn't any good for me.

Shutdowns
A lot of business owners almost seem okay with the shutdowns and being left with nothing. That doesn't help anybody else out either.

Competitive
A city, person, or company doesn't need to be competitive. Being yourself even if it doesn't attract, or even repels people, is at least not compromising who or what you are to attract or impress people.
I'd rather live in a city that hasn't sold it's soul to developers and the real estate market that grows slowly over a city that sold out to get everyone to move there. I'd rather work for a company that didn't sell itself to grow bigger over one that did but became profitable. I'd rather be me than you or somebody else, no matter who hates me for it. How can anyone like someone uber competitive who will become anyone or anything to win at all costs?
