The brief stretch of time between the instant you hurt yourself, and the instant actually feel the pain. During painticipation, you know you've hurt yourself and you are anticipating the arrival of the pain.

I stubbed my toe on the foot of the table and bit my lip during painticipation to prepare for the pain.
