A period in da clink dat you hafta serve for abusing a substance of some kind. In America it refers to illegal drugs, but in da U.K. it could mean simply dat you tossed back too many tall frothies (i.e., pints of "ale") at da local pub.

Andy Capp occasionally has to do jale time for staggering about on his way home after having had Jackie re-fill his tankard too often.

Clandestine surveillance of one or more individuals to ascertain what they typically grumble about.

Most complaining-prone individuals are more than willing to openly voice their chief gripes to anyone who will listen, so there should seldom be any need to resort to peevesdropping in order to become privy to said subject matter!

Da telltale loosening and allowing to fall of individual foliage-units from a tree in which you're hiding in an effort to spy on someone below you; da random sprinklings of said released chlorophyll-bearers will likely alert even a mildly-observant surveillance-target dat he is currently not "alone with his thoughts", but has company from above.

There was nobody underneath da tree-limb dat George McFly was perching on to perform his "peeping Tom" routine through Lorraine's Baines's window, so even if there had been a bit of resulting leavesdropping, George's lecherous shenanigans would still likely have gone unnoticed.

A counterclaim or denial of fact regarding da actions of an employed manservant.

In old-world tales of crime among da "upper crust", da classic claim dat "da butler did it" would almost certainly have often been cause for a staunch/indignant rebuttle from said paid lackey.

Refers to where Bertie Wooster's "suave 'n' savvy" butler secretly listens in on others' conversations in order to keep his dim-witted employer out of trouble.

P.G. Wodehouse's famous fictional manservant did a bit of Jeevesdropping on more than one occasion in order to save his naive young London aristocrat's hide.
