PCA963's definitions
Splitware refers to a controversial business practice in the software and video game development industry where a developer intentionally removes or withholds significant features or content from the final version of their product with the intent of releasing it separately as paid downloadable content (DLC). This practice is often perceived as a marketing strategy aimed at maximizing profits by monetizing features that would traditionally be included in the base product.
The gaming community was outraged when they discovered that the highly anticipated game had been tainted by splitware tactics, as essential gameplay elements were only available through paid DLC.
