When a person (usually male) intentionally takes long, unecessary pauses between words thereby taking up much more time than necessary to complete a conversation or thought.

When asked "how are you?" Jerry took 3 minutes wordspreading a simple response complete with deep breaths and thoughtful looks between each and every word.

When a person (generally female) takes up an extra seat with her purse or bag or otherwise encroaches into shared space with her purse.

This woman was pursespreading into the last open seat.

Sara is always going to the doctor for something or another but her only real sickness is her goodinsurancitis
