Gark

To suddenly realize you have been confidently doing something
completely wrong the whole time. The specific moment when your
confidence collapses because you spot your own mistake, usually
too late to undo it. Intransitive: you gark, you don't gark
something.

I garked halfway through the test when I realized I'd been using
the wrong formula.
