Minimax

The combination of the words minimum and max minus to mean to put forth the minimum effort to achieve the maximum result.

I tell my students all the time that they need to work smarter, not harder, it’s the principle or minimax!

Maximin

The opposite of minimax (search on Urban Dictionary). The combination of the words minimum and maximum referring to the maximum effort that sometimes leads to minimal results.

I always encourage my students to NOT to do the maximin, and rather, the minimax, as working harder for no payoff is not a good work ethic to have!
