Originally innovated by the experimentation of Mick Gordon in the Wolfenstein and Killer Instinct franchises, the most commonly agreed upon point of inception was when he created the Soundtrack for DOOM 2016. This can be attributed to the fact that he was tasked to "Create Music like Nobody has ever heard before" when tasked with composing and developing sound design techniques.

Through what is considered by some to be a 'happy accident' and others a display of technical brilliance in terms of music production - the culmination of factors has lead to probably the most influential movements in Modern Metal. Post-release of DOOM Eternal, the popularity of both DOOM and it's soundtracks skyrocketed and many artists sought out to decode and replicate many of the sound design techniques used.

YouTuber and Composer Geoffrey Day saw a great deal of success in creating Video Game covers in the style of DOOM; with the term 'Argent Metal' originating from a YouTube Community post in which he polled his subscribers on what they thought this new genre should be called.

Stylistic wise, the genre is generally defined by the extreme meshing of Electronic Sound Design with the Writing of Modern Metal music. It is a common misconception that Guitars are the defining factor of this genre when really, any aggressively distorted set of frequencies (or Atonal non-frequencies)from a controllable sound source often suffices.
Person 1: Hey man, have you heard about Argent Metal?
Person 2: Yeah!! I've heard there's a really awesome online community dedicated to making it!
