The ability to understand and share the feelings of another but suspending that ability until the participant(s) are seen as worthy of that empathy.

There's an uptick in de-empathization amongst women due to more progressive times.

No longer indulging in over empathetic notions or actions at the expense of one's self or others.

There's an uptick in people who de-empathify due to an uptick in more predatory behavior due to societal acceptance.
