See #6. In the mid-80's, "stubby" was a term for "black person," referring especially to those of thuggish bent who hung out at Berkeley High School. Stubby fashion at the time included keeping the sales tags on newly-purchased athletic shoes, to emphasize the amount of money they'd cost.
