New York Dolls

The New York Dolls were punk rock before there was a term for it. Building on the Rolling Stones' dirty rock & roll, Mick Jagger's androgyny, girl group pop, the glam rock of David Bowie and T. Rex, and the Stooges' anarchic noise, the New York Dolls created a new form of hard rock that presaged both punk rock and heavy metal. Their drug-fueled, shambolic performances influenced a generation of musicians in New York and London, who all went on to form punk bands. And although they self-destructed quickly, the band's two albums remained two of the most popular cult records in rock & roll history.

All of the members of the New York Dolls played in New York bands before they formed in late 1971. Guitarists Johnny Thunders and Rick Rivets, bassist Arthur Kane, and drummer Billy Murcia were joined by vocalist David Johansen. Early in 1972, Rivets was replaced by Sylvain Sylvain and the group began playing regularly in lower Manhattan, particularly at the Mercers Art Center. Within a few months, they had earned a dedicated cult following, but record companies were afraid of signing the band because of their cross-dressing and blatant vulgarity.
A great band. They were a punk band that existed before The Ramones.

Johnny Rotten

The lead singer of the notorious '70s punk band The Sex Pistols. The name he was born with was John Lydon. The one and only time that they were on the Bill Grundy Show, Johnny Rotten swore about 8 times in 3 sentences. He was the one who introduced Sid Vicious to hair spray. He did NOT start the safety pin fad. Besides, safety pins are part of punk, so they weren't a fad. The punks were just so poor, that they used them to hold their clothes together. After the Sex Pistols broke up, Johnny Rotten started Public Image Ltd.

Noise Rock

Noise Rock is exactly what it sounds like. One or more guitars, bass and drums all combined to make pure noise.
A good example of noise is The Mung. They aren't very well known but my cousin and I know of them because they are from our hometown, which is Rome NY. Also from Rome are King Dump(hardcore), Reluctant Hero(pop punk), Breaking Over Nothing(rock, my cousin is in this band) and Day's End.

Johnny Thunders & The Heartbreakers

A great band from the 70's. They played in CBGB'S, as did The Ramones. They were punk (obviously, after all by this time that's almost all I write about). This was the incarnation of The Heartbreakers, after Richard Hell left to start The Voidoids. The Heartbreakers were on The Sex Pistols Anarchy In The UK Tour.
