A uncommon last name originating in Ireland. Usually people with the last name "Hollett" are unlucky, this was an ancient story (supposed curse) because, in September of 1945 a farmer by the name of "Richard F. Hollett" owned one of the largest potato plantations known to Leitrim at the time.As the story goes, Richard had been out in the rain working on his farm and he deiced to quit the entire job altogether. He and his wife Maria Hollett had wanted to start up a bakery. So the two of them took a basket of thirty or so potatoes and sold the rest for a larger cost, while they did end up with their own bakery, it was short lived as all thirty of the potatoes they had taken home with them had grown a bacteria which caused a fatal disease. But none of the other families who bought the rest of the potatoes had contracted anything.
