To represent something or someone. It's a verb for the word emissary, which is a person sent on a mission as a representative, but this one's more inclusive in its ability to represent.

The characters in the story were used to emisserate the author, not just fictional people.

When you give the little huff of breath through your nose when something is funny but you’re in public, but multiple in quick succession.
