1. Failure of attempted empathy.
2. The act of empathizing with another individual, but failing due to circumstances beyond your control.

I attempted to explain to my recent ex-girlfriend that I know how she feels in our situation, because I've been in the same position in the past. That attempathy backfired badly, because she thought I was measuring her against another past ex-girlfriend.

confauxdence

1. Harboring inner doubts about one's capabilities while displaying an outward appearance of legitimate confidence.
2. Prematurely forced self-assurance.

It's impossible to 'fake it till you make it' without starting off with at least a little bit of confauxdence.
