GROWL
/ɡraʊl/
Acronym – Grumpy Old White Lady

A tongue-in-cheek abbreviation used to describe a particular archetype of an older white woman who behaves in an entitled, dismissive, or condescending manner—especially when wielding social, racial, or class privilege to get her own way.

Much like the term Karen, a GROWL is often associated with public outbursts, excessive complaints, or scolding behaviour directed at service workers, younger people, or anyone not conforming to her expectations.

Commonly spotted:
– At the manager’s counter
– On community Facebook pages
Writing strongly worded letters
– Loudly policing behaviour in public spaces

⚠️ Often used humorously but can be controversial due to age and gender dynamics. Use with awareness.
"Ugh, the café was out of oat milk and some GROWL tried to shut the whole place down over it."
