Duprstupr
A state of profound social blindness and behavioral delusion caused by an obsession with one's Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating (DUPR). Generated by an imperfect algorithm based entirely on playing against others caught within the exact same delusion, the rating causes players to lose all touch with reality. A player suffering from Duprstupr completely forgets that pickleball is an inherently fun, and social game. Instead, they operate in a mindless trance of pure ego, viewing lifelong friends, acquaintances, and spouses exclusively as statistical liabilities to their decimal point.
Pickleballitics
The tragic psychological phenomenon where perfectly normal adults lose their minds to the social politics of club-level pickleball. While the sport itself is objectively fantastic, addictive, and great exercise, the people who play it beyond their mental capabilities occasionally turn the courts into an unhinged psychological thriller. It is the anxiety-inducing social gymnastics of navigating fragile egos, gatekeeping cliques, and exclusionary partner selection, where a simple game with a plastic ball compromises long-term friendships and marriages.
Pickleballitics ruined my weekend because my regular partner texted me the morning of our tournament to back out. He caught a sudden case of chasing the dream, and climbing the ladder with a 5.5 player, but fast forward a couple of years later and he is still sitting at a 3.6 rating.
