The (sometimes quick) process whereby an interesting idea, song, or object becomes so trite and smarmy that you are ashamed you ever thought it was cool to begin with.

Art was lucky he lived in a tourist town, as he never seemed able to find any local men to hook up with and was forced to hit on OTD for sex.
