warm cut

a route chosen, often in winter, that leads through heated buildings to escape intense cold, snow and other winter weather. Similar to a short-cut but does not usually reduce travel time, in fact, if often increases the length of the trip.
Person 1: It is so cold out and we still have half of campus to cross.

Person 2: Don't worry man, let's hang a left and take the warm cut through the library.

warmcut

noun: A pedestrian route chosen for its warmth, rather than because it makes the pedestrian's trip shorter.

Warmcuts can be taken in an urban area, usually through a department store or office building that spans an entire city block, for the specific purpose of avoiding the cold weather outside.

On the way to my annual winter lunch with Pierpont, I took a warmcut through the County Services building.
