One who publishes statements or stories iconic of reputation without regard for truth

Media outlets such as the New York Times and Rolling Stone have been embarrassed by journalists who turned out to be apocryphists.

Apocryolite 

A fictitious mineral that consists of dubious and erroneous claims, and that remains rigid and unaltered by any influence or pressure. It is commonly encountered in the beliefs of people who reject any challenge or contradiction to their views.

Eg 1: Time and time again
The apocryolite stands by their falsetto
A song they sing loud and proud
Only to be followed by the selfsame

Eg 2: The news casters keep spewing the same apocryolite view.
