A word whose origins come from the hit television sitcom "Seinfeld". One of the recurring characters, Cosmo Kramer, had been called this (as far as I know, on more than one occasion).
I assume it's supposed to be an insult, referring to the person as someone who thinks they're cool, yet is (according to the insulter) quite the opposite.

This term refers to a friend or close acquaintance, usually a male, that tries too hard to mimic or emulate someone they like or admire, including but not limited to - dressing or speaking in the same manner. However, they are considered half as smart as the person they are trying to emulate. The female equivalent is generally referred to as a "doppel-ditz." Often this term is used among college students.
John was Jason's doppel-dufus, constantly saying and doing the everything John did in the worst way.

A delightful phrase used on the one of the networks show called Blossom. The Joey character said he was by the school bus and he hoped he didn't get any "dufus dust" on him because he's so much (cooler) than those dorks on the bus.

A fancy way of saying idiot. It is theorized that it is actually a new species of human, the Dufus Ignoramus, said to be found in your everyday locations. It is said that once found, the Dufus Ignoramus will become self concious, and escalate from the Dufus Ignoramus to the Dufus Ignoramus maximus, a much more saucy and ignorant version of the initial one.
George: Dude, john is such a dufus ignoramus, yesterday, i saw him standing in aisle seven with his pants on the ground while arguing with the store manager about how flamingos need a new habitat.
