The lyrics refer to several events and pop culture phenominae during the time period from the late 40s to around 1970. AKA "The Day the Music Died", this tune refers to the plane crash deaths of Buddy Holly, Richard Valens, and The Big Bopper at the same time in the late 1950's. Played excessively by radio stations, it's considered to be a "classic", but then again, so is "You You -YOU" by Peter Frampton, "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" by Meat Loaf and "You Light Up My Life" by Debbie Booneand other shit. In 2000 Madonna released a cover of this tune, and it ain't that hot.
