Back during the 2010's, it used to be an acronym for "laughing out loud", but now it means "this text briefly indicates I am not being hostile"

Misinterpretation held by many people's moms - "lots of love" instead of "laughing out loud." Best to use it in a situation where "lots of love" would be very empathetic and appropriate, and "laughing out loud" would be incorrect, disrespectful, and downright horrific.
I heard your brother passed away. LOL
I'm so sorry that you were in a tragic boating accident and are now paralyzed from the neck down. Call me if you need anything LOL

Used to mean "Laugh Out Loud", however some time ago idiots decided to change the meaning to "I don't know what to say so I'll just say LOL to confuse you as to whether I actually mean it or not". Some awesome people (such as myself) HATE when people say this, because then you have no idea what to respond with. Some annoying people also add this to the end of EVERYTHING THEY SAY! That makes me want to set them on fire.
If you do this, please stop or I'll come to your house and break your Xbox.
