A negative compliment.

Negging is a tactic used by predatory pick-up artists to undermine a womans self confidence leaving her vulnerable to attack.

Note: This is a tactic only used by rapists. Real men do not intend to attack or harm women.

nerging 

n. The action of gently nudging the car inch by inch at a traffic light to get slightly closer to the line, without breaking the law and crossing over. Most fun to do when your co-worker is in the car drinking a full cup of hot coffee.

Person #1: Would you stop nerging the car up to the stoplight, I am trying to drink my coffee!

Person #2: Sorry man! My foot just slipped *evil grin*

negging 

It's a way to pick up girls. How it works is you use remarks to tap into female insecurity; Shake their confidence.
Neg is a negative remark wrapped in a back-handed compliment.
So your neg will confuse and intrigue them and maybe even shake their confidence a little bit, but only enough for them to fall from the clouds and be interested in talking to you. Its way to get threw their defenses at bars and such.

An example of Negging a girl would be:
"You are nearly as tall as me. I like tall girls (LIFT). Are those heels 4 or 5 inches (DROP)?"
OR
You say, "Ahhh, that's so funny ... you nose moves when you speak...... (pointing and being cute) look there it goes again ... its so... quaint ... haha look"
She'll say, "ahhh, stoppp!"*blush*.
Now she is self conscious and having her in this state is where you want her. You have neghit her.

negging 

To put someone down or express negativity or criticism toward someone, usually in a joking or sarcastic manner.

Related to, and generally interchangeable with giving you a hard time, or to put on blast, though 'negging' is often used retroactively to express that the criticism went too far and was received as a put down.

person 1: hey sorry for negging you earlier, I was just giving you shit because your shirt was inside out. I didn't really mean it when I said you were a dork.
person 2: it's ok, I just wasn't feeling very good that day and I didn't think it was very funny, sorry for snapping at you.

Negging 

The practice of methodically killing other players in a massively multiplayer game, who have dramatically less power than oneself. A term originated in games in which players spawn with a negative bounty score, to deter such strategies. This term originated in the game, Sub Space, from Virgin Interactive. Rather than deter the practice, negative bounties only served to increase it, due to the novelty of a large negative score. Subsequently, negative bounties were eliminated. The practice if killing extremely low bounty players, as a strategy and pass time, continued with the same name.
