The M142 HIgh-Mobility Artillery Rocket System is an American-made MLRS or Multiple Launch Rocket system developed in the late 1990s, mounted on the frame of the US Army’s M1140 truck.

The HIMARS is currently in service with up to 10 operators world wide, most notably the US Army, and, more recently, the Ukrainian Ground Forces which recently gained 16 M142 missile systems from the US and has created a powerful reputation for the HIMARS system’s effectiveness after several devastating attacks on locations of strategic importance to Russia in the current war in Ukraine.

The M142 is capable of firing multiple different rocket and missile pods of varying guidance, range, and payload. It can fire a pod of 6 unguided M28 RRPR rockets with a range of 9 kms or M30 GMLRS guided missiles with a range of 15-92 kms, or one singular 610mm ATACMS GPS guided missile with a range of up to 300 kms.

The M142 HIMARS missile system is manufactured by Lockheed Martin, with over 540 being built so far. The HIMARS system costs over 3.8 million dollars as of 2020, and has been in service with the US Army since 2010.
“I heard there was another HIMARS strike on a Russian base. They tried to cover it up but they’re obviously freaking out lol.”
