The abbreviation for 'Field Programmable Gate Arrays', a kind of Digital IC that has a large number of transisters which can be programmed and re-programmed to make a variety of circuits to do a variety of functions. This is in contrast to simple ICs which once manufactured can't be altered in any way.

Some refined fellow added the abbreviation 'FPGA' to urban-dictionary to bring some class to the website.
