Similar to being friend zoned, only far worse.

While being friend zoned can sometimes produce a friend, being acquaintance zoned produces nothing.

Josh: So how did asking out Sarah go?

Larry: Not well at all. No interest.

Josh: Friend zoned?

Larry: Worse. Acquaintance zoned.

Staying in the acquaintance zone as you know that you're not worthy enough to be friends.

"So you like becky?"
"Nah she kinda put me in the acquaintance zone."

Polite Acquaintance Zone

The proper place to consider an ex-lover after a bad break up. Should not be confused with the friend zone.

After she got over her anger about our break up, Nancy wanted to remain friends. But I think it's a better idea to keep her in my polite acquaintance zone.
