An Australian TV show written, directed and acted by Chris Lilley, who also did Summer Heights High. It does not have much recognition as it isn't as funny as Summer Heights High.

So he's saying if there wasn't such a thing as money or currency then their longing for adventure and thrill seeking tendencies couples with their “noble” desires to improve the world and seek freedom would have led them to being heroes. Basically saying their greed wins out so they pillage and thieve.
