Hobo

Some useless bum that sits infront of your school drinking alcohol, but in a way you feel like you want to hug them...

As Bob was walking to school on a nice friday morning, he came across a trail of beer bottles. He followed them to back behind his school where he saw a motionless lump under some blankets. He picked up a nearby stick and poked it a couple of times to see if it would move, it didn't. When Bob took the blanket off of it he saw a person that looked somewhat dead. To check he gave it a few kicks and it eventually woke up. As it started to stand up, Bob hugged it and jizzed his pants. Bob and the Hobo then spent the rest of the day drinking alcohol.

A homeless person. This word is usually used by people who do not have sympathy for homeless people. Someone who runs a homeless shelter would never use the word hobo.

Homeless nomadic workers, who often stowaway on moving trains for mass-transport. Hobo culture has seen a decrease after World War 2, but the counter-culture youth have brought in new generations. Christopher McCandless is a very famous example.
They are different from bums, because they want to and can work odd jobs. Bums typically have addictions or mental problems that affect their functionality in society, so they typically live in sewers or under bridges. Hobos, on the other hand, rarely stay in one place.
