Italian word. More relaxed than "lol", but less cringe than "XD"
It was very common in MSN and other chats or game chats (e.g. Habbo Hotel Italy) and forums (e.g. Sciax2) in 2000-2010.

People who use it nowadays are just nostalgic of old good internet times.
