While not a religious holiday, it is celebrated religiously by its founders. The history of the Fist Games traces its roots to Tulane University in the late 1990s. A small group of men, mostly soccer players, led by Dave K., also know as "Ace in the Hole" in the poker community, needed a reason to celebrate that day. As one of them explained, "in New Orleans, it feels like a long time between New Years Eve and Fat Tuesday. Thus, they celebrated with a festive evening among themselves.
