A modern term likened to "new oil," highlighting its value in today’s society. Just as oil was a critical resource in the past, attention has become a sought-after commodity, driving social media engagement, marketing strategies, and personal interactions.
In the age of social media, getting likes and shares is like striking oil; everyone is vying for that precious attention!

When something awful happens, people tend to pay attention to the awful thing, especially the victims. This is unacceptable to the Attention Shrieker who must be the center of attention at all times. Thus, whenever something happens which might draw attention away from them, they will start shrieking. Not only is attention expected, but reassurance and coddling to remind them that though someone just had both of their legs ripped off by an alligator, THEY are the real victim.
When the man jumped off the building, the attention shriekers immediately began shrieking so people would look at them instead of the dying man.
