1930's expression for "fuck" (vulgar) or "see" (polite). You hear this expression in old movies, or recent movies (like Get Low) which is about the 1930's.
In the old days we'd say, "When did you take up with Sallie Mae?-- after all she's a married woman." Today we would say, "When did you start seeing Sallie Mae?" Or, "When did you start fucking Sallie Mae?"
