Goldeneyeing

A heavy form of nostalgia bias where someone defensively idealizes older media (games, movies, etc.) while ignoring flaws and dismissing modern improvements of later installments or other newer media that is similar. The word puts a twist on the mythic status of the 1997 Nintendo 64 game GoldenEye with related sight-based terminology like "rose-tinted glasses."

Traits:

1. Defensive nostalgia: Aggressively downplays dated elements (e.g., clunky controls, low framerates, bad game design).
2. Progress dismissal: Claims successors “lack soul” or "didn't feel the same" despite arguably objective upgrades (e.g., QoL features, accessibility, production value).
