See also: “Dutch Surrender”
A scenario where the outcome of a contest is clearly unknown, but the individual involved (typically a Dutchman) is distracted by an innocuous task and exits abruptly without warning, but later claims victory.
Possible Historical origin- Battle of Gasselterboerveenschemond, where the Dutch infantry fled during a Wallonian military advance in order to “Head home to oil their windmills.” Yet later claiming victory in the history books.

I’ll take $200 Guilder for passing go and now I must leave to put new lacquer on my shoes.
But we’re in the middle of Monopoly.
I still win, I have the most hotels.

The act of committing all of your efforts to stopping a particular rival from winning a competitive game/event once you realise you have no way of winning yourself.
Game of monopoly: 3 players left
"John you will give me all of your properties for only $500". "Yeh Jimmy sure, as long as you let me go around the board 3 times without having to pay rent". Cheeky smirk to the Bryn. John i'l give you $5000 for all of your properties and allow you not to pay rent on my properties for 3 turns. "Nah Bryn thats fine, i'm going to stick with Jimmy's deal".
As a result Bryn is quickly knocked out of the game, after which John immediately insults Bryn about how bad he is at the game, forfeits to Jimmy and enjoys the glory of his spite-victory.

This is the "loser" version of a "Pyrrhic" victory, one that echoes the disaster of the Titanic on its maiden voyage. However, this one refers to the Russian president and his deluded invasion of Ukraine.
In three months of war in Ukraine, Russia's "special operation" can only be called a putanic victory with 25,000 dead Russian soldiers and close to 100,000 wounded.
